WASHINGTON, DC - The Energy and Power Subcommittee, chaired by Rep. Ed Whitfield (R-KY), today reviewed eight energy infrastructure bills. Each of the bills under consideration builds upon the committee’s ongoing work to strengthen and modernize our energy infrastructure.
LEGISLATIVE HIGHLIGHTS
Rep. Mike Pompeo (R-KS) discusses his two bills, H.R. 3021, the AIR Survey Act and H.R.__, a bill to amend section 203 of the Federal Power Act

* Amends the Federal Power Act to expressly include a minimum monetary threshold of $10,000,000 for acquisitions of Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) jurisdictional facilities
H.R. 3021, AIR Survey Act of 2105
* Amends the Natural Gas Act to clarify data collected by aerial survey may be accepted for federal reviews of natural gas pipelines

* Amends the Federal Power Act to provide opportunities for rehearing of orders affecting rates, even in instances where rates become effective by operation of law
Rep. David McKinley (R-WV) discusses his draft legislation to extend the deadline for commencement of construction of a hydroelectric project involving the Jennings Randolph Dam
H.R. ___, a bill to extend the deadline for commencement of construction of a hydroelectric project involving the Jennings Randolph Dam
* Reinstates the license to start construction of West Virginia’s Jennings Randolph Dam project for six years
The subcommittee also considered four additional bills that aim to bolster our nation’s hydroelectric power from non-powered dams.
* H.R. 2080, a bill to reinstate and extend the deadline for commencement of construction of a hydroelectric project involving the Clark Canyon Dam ;
* H.R. 2081, a bill to extend the deadline for commencement of construction of a hydroelectric project involving the Gibson Dam;
* H.R. 3447, a bill to extend the deadline for commencement of construction of a hydroelectric project involving the W. Kerr-Scott Dam ; and
* H.R.___, a bill to extend the deadline for commencement of construction of a hydroelectric project involving the Cannonsville Dam.
Full committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI) highlighted the importance of hydropower, commenting, “Renewable hydropower is a critical component of our all-of-the-above energy strategy, and its benefits are many. Hydro is cheap and reliable and has minimal environmental impacts. Each of these hydroelectric projects will create many high-paying construction jobs and expand the electricity supply for the communities directly served."
Subcommittee Chairman Whitfield concluded, “We’ve continuously examined legislation aimed at cutting red tape where it is standing in the way of energy infrastructure that would benefit all Americans. Projects that update and expand the nation’s energy infrastructure will create jobs and lead to greater supplies of affordable domestic energy for our homes and businesses. That is the unifying theme behind the eight bills we reviewed today."
