#SubCommTech To Vote on Three Bills THIS WEEK

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Feb. 8, 2016. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC - The Subcommittee on Communications and Technology, chaired by Rep. Greg Walden (R-OR), has scheduled a markup this week to consider three bills that will protect consumers and small businesses. The subcommittee will convene on Wednesday, Feb. 10, at 3 p.m. in room 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building for opening statements only. The subcommittee will reconvene Thursday, Feb. 11, at 10 a.m. in room 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building to consider the following legislation:

* H.R. 1301, the Amateur Radio Act, authored by Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL), instructs the Federal Communications Commission to adopt rules to protect the rights of amateur radio operators to use amateur radio equipment.

* H.R. 2666, the No Rate Regulation of Broadband Internet Access Act, also authored by Rep. Kinzinger, would prevent the FCC from regulating the rates charged for broadband Internet.

* H.R. ___, the Small Business Broadband Deployment Act, authored by subcommittee Chairman Walden, would make permanent the FCC’s temporary exemption from the enhanced disclosure rules for small businesses required by the commission’s Open Internet Order.

“As always, we are fighting to make sure consumers and small businesses are put first. These commonsense proposals will ensure the ability to access the Internet’s many different content streams and innovative offerings of the digital age," said Walden. “Chairman Wheeler was adamant that net neutrality would not be a vehicle to impose rate regulation on the Internet or harm small businesses. These bills guarantee those protections."

The Majority Memorandum and electronic copies of the bills are available here. Amendment text and votes will be posted at the same link as they are available. Related Items
