Brokaw, Upton, and DeGette On the #Path2Cures

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Feb. 11, 2016. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC - The bipartisan effort to deliver #CuresNow continues to gain momentum and bring people together. Last night in the nation’s capital, the Tracy’s Kids organization honored Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI), Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO), and NBC News Special Correspondent Tom Brokaw. Tracy’s Kids has helped countless young cancer patients and their families cope with the stress and trauma that comes with diagnosis and treatment.

Sharing stories of his own battle with cancer, legendary newscaster Tom Brokaw presented the 2016 Courage Award to both Upton and DeGette, highlighting their work on the 21st Century Cures Act, and exclaiming that the bill needs to become law.

“Tracy’s Kids is what the #CuresNow effort has been all about, and they have been great partners in the Cures effort. We are delighted to have Tom Brokaw join us on the #Path2Cures, and welcome his voice calling for the 21st Century Cures Act to be signed into law," said Upton and DeGette. “The time is now to start delivering faster cures and hope to kids battling disease as well as patients of all ages. The momentum for cures is building."
