WASHINGTON, DC - Continuing its work to protect consumers and small businesses, the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology, chaired by Rep. Greg Walden (R-OR), today approved three commonsense bills to ease burdensome regulations.
Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL), author of H.R. 1301 and H.R. 2666, speaks during today’s #SubCommTech Markup
The subcommittee approved:
* H.R. 1301, the Amateur Radio Parity Act of 2015, authored by Rep. Kinzinger, which will boost amateur radio use by instructing the FCC to adopt rules to protect the rights of amateur radio operators to use amateur radio equipment. H.R. 1301 was approved by voice vote.
* H.R. 2666, the No Rate Regulation of Broadband Internet Access Act, also authored by Rep. Kinzinger, would prevent the FCC from regulating the rates charged for broadband Internet. H.R. 2666 was approved by a vote of 17-10.
* H.R. ___, the Small Business Broadband Deployment Act, authored by subcommittee Chairman Walden, seeks to make the FCC’s temporary exemption from the enhanced disclosure rules for small businesses required by the commission’s Open Internet Order permanent. The discussion draft was approved by voice vote.
“I’m optimistic that we can put the finishing touches on these bills in the weeks ahead and once again produce important, bipartisan legislation that protects consumers, small businesses, and access to the latest communications services," said Walden.
“With these three commonsense proposals, our work continues to protect consumers and small businesses from burdensome regulation," added full committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI), “I’m proud of this subcommittee’s bipartisan efforts, and I’m optimistic that we will reach bipartisan agreement on these bills."
