The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Feb. 25, 2016. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC - The Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade, chaired by Rep. Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), has scheduled a hearing for Thursday, March 3, at 10 a.m. in room 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is entitled “Disrupter Series: Wearable Devices."

The Disrupter Series continues next week with a review of wearable technology - Internet-connected devices or apparel physically worn by the user. From health trackers to smart watches and smart glasses, wearable technology is transforming the 21st century economy and the way consumers engage in everyday commerce. Following reviews of the Internet of Things, sharing economy, drones, mobile payments, and 3D printing, members will next tap into wearable technology and examine how it’s being received by consumers and disrupting traditional business.

“Wearable technology is a phenomenon that is taking the marketplace by storm. With the single tap on your wrist you’re able to communicate and engage in ways that were once science fiction. ‘Wearables’ can empower consumers and drive increased productivity and efficiency. They can also help improve public safety, optimize resource use, and enhance individual performance. Our disrupter series will next explore how these innovative technologies are transforming our 21st century economy," said Burgess.as they are posted. Related Items
