HEARING: #SUBCMT to Examine Pet Medication

WASHINGTON, DC - The Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade chaired by Rep. Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX) has scheduled a hearing for Friday, April 29, 2016 at 9:45 a.m. in 2322 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is entitled “The Pet Medication Industry: Issues and Perspectives."

According to the American Pet Products Association, 65 percent of U.S. households own a pet and Americans spent just over $60 billion on their pets in 2015, and are expected to spend over $62 billion this year.

2015 - $60.28 billion was spent on our pets in the U.S.:

* Food $23.05 billion

* Supplies/OTC Medicine $14.28 billion

* Vet Care $15.42 billion

* Live animal purchases $2.12 billion

* Pet Services: grooming & boarding $5.41 billion

“Our hearing next week will provide a forum to carefully examine whether federal involvement is needed in the veterinary prescription medication space. I believe the discussion will be robust on both sides of the issue," said Burgess.as they are posted. See Also
