WASHINGTON, DC - The House Energy and Commerce Committee, chaired by Rep. Fred Upton (R-MI), today released updated bill text in advance of a full committee markup on Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee Chairman Tim Murphy’s (R-PA) bipartisan H.R. 2646, the Helping Families in Mental Health Crisis Act. The text will be considered as an Amendment in the Nature of a Substitute (AINS) to the previous bill text.
“This week marks a critical milestone in the multi-year effort to deliver meaningful mental health reforms. Chairman Murphy deserves great kudos, and the legislation reflects his commitment to the seriously mentally ill and helping families in mental health crisis," said Chairman Upton. “We’ve made significant progress over the last few months and held many productive bipartisan conversations to get us to this point. I look forward to a strong bipartisan vote tomorrow, as our work continues to advance critical reforms that will make a difference for the countless Americans battling mental illness."
An electronic copy of the bill, as well as a background memo, amendments, and votes will be available on the Energy and Commerce Committee’s website here as they are posted.
