WASHINGTON, DC - Tomorrow, at 11:30 a.m. in a signing ceremony at the White House, the Frank Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act will clear its final hurdle and be signed into law. The landmark update to the nation’s chemical safety laws has been a top priority for House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI) and Environment and the Economy Subcommittee Chairman John Shimkus (R-IL). The legislation is the product of a multi-year effort to revamp the 40-year-old Toxic Substances Control Act, and will bring about improved regulatory certainty to better protect American families, jobs, and the environment.
“After a lot of hard, bipartisan work, there’s a light at the end of the TSCA tunnel," said Upton and Shimkus. “With a stroke of the president’s pen on Wednesday, we’ll culminate a multi-year, multi-Congress effort to reform our chemical safety laws."
