“On to the Senate," those were our #CuresIn4Words one year ago today as the House overwhelmingly passed H.R. 6, the 21st Century Cures Act by a vote of 344 to 77. While patients and advocates continue to push to see #CuresNow cross the finish line, incredible progress has been made.
The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee held three markups on 18 provisions within the Cures package - all passed by voice votes. We added some new voices to the #Path2Cures - like Rock-legend Roger Daltrey, daytime television’s Dr. Phil, and Walter Whitt, a recent high school graduate battling cystic fibrosis who is Harvard-bound in the fall. We’ve also had new messages from familiar faces - like our friend Max, and Brooke and Brielle Kennedy, the two little angels who helped serve as the inspiration for the Cures effort.
“We’ve made incredible strides on the #Path2Cures, and continue to make important progress every day," said Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI). “Every voice, every smile in the face of illness, every story is important in this collective effort, and to our countless partners in this effort to deliver hope, we are going to get the job done. The stars have clearly aligned for Cures over the last year. We are committed, the Senate is committed, and the administration is committed - 2016 is the year for Cures."
We’ve made great progress over the last year, and the momentum continues to build by the day. On to deliver #CuresNow.
