The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Sept. 3, 2016. It is reproduced in full below.

This weekend represents a holiday - and a long weekend - for many. As we approach Labor Day, we’d like to thank all of the passionate patient advocates for their work on behalf of H.R. 6, the 21st Century Cures Act.

“From day one, 21st Century Cures has always been about the patients," said Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI). “They are the strongest voices in this collective effort, and the driving force for our continued push to deliver #CuresNow. This Labor Day weekend, and every day, we are grateful for those folks who have joined us on the #Path2Cures. Your work is a labor of love and we wouldn’t be where we are today without you. Together, we are making a difference."

The #Path2Cures has grown considerably over the last three years. Here’s a glimpse of some of our star-studded advocates who have been hard at work to deliver #CuresNow:

Brooke and Brielle Kennedy, two angels from Michigan battling spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) and the inspiration behind the Cures effort.

Max Schill, the official #CuresNow artist battles Noonan syndrome.

Roger Daltrey, The Who frontman and co-chair of Teen Cancer America.

Senate HELP Chairman Lamar Alexander (R-TN), Senate HELP Ranking Member Patty Murray (D-WA), Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO), Vice President Joe Biden, Chairman Upton, and Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone (D-NJ) took the #Path2Cures to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Walter Whitt, Harvard University freshman battling cystic fibrosis.

Gabe Griffin, the face of Hope4Gabe and Ride4Gabe fights Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Dr. Phil joined the #Path2Cures this May.

Emily Muller and Shira Strongin, two teens battling rare diseases that spent their summer pushing for #CuresNow.
