Pallone Statement on Republican Reversal on IANA Transition

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Sept. 8, 2016. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Energy and Commerce Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) issued the following statement today on news that the Republican leaders of the House and Senate commerce and judiciary committees are asking the Obama Administration to reconsider the transition of the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA):

“This about-face on the IANA transition is just the latest example of Congressional Republicans caving to the extreme fringes of their party, this time led by Senator Ted Cruz. Support for this transition was overwhelming - from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Internet Association to public interest groups - and our committee has worked in a bipartisan manner to ensure Congressional oversight by passing the DOTCOM Act. This backtracking by Congressional Republicans seriously undermines American credibility in this process, and threatens to embolden the worst actors of foreign governments in their efforts to control the free and open internet as we know it today."
