WASHINGTON, DC - The Subcommittee on Energy, chaired by Rep. Fred Upton (R-MI), today announced a hearing for Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at 10 a.m. in room 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is entitled, “Modernizing Energy Infrastructure: Challenges and Opportunities to Expanding Hydropower Generation"

Members of the subcommittee will examine the state of the nation’s dams and hydropower resources. This includes a review of the federal licensing process and recommendations to improve coordination between government agencies, promote new infrastructure, and ensure consumers have access to reliable and affordable electricity generated from hydropower.

“As part of our efforts to promote infrastructure modernization and continuing our work reviewing the electricity system and power markets, next week’s hearing will provide us an opportunity to examine the challenges and opportunities to expand hydropower generation in the United States," said Chairman Upton. “Clean, reliable, and affordable hydropower will play an integral role in powering our nation in the years to come."
