WASHINGTON, DC - The Subcommittee on Digital Commerce and Consumer Protection, chaired by Rep. Bob Latta (R-OH), today announced a hearing for Thursday, March 16, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. in room 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is entitled, “Disrupter Series: Smart Communities."
This subcommittee has a history of examining the cutting edge of American innovation and technological progress and exploring how today’s innovations are helping individuals and improving communities. This hearing is an opportunity for members to hear from a geographically diverse group of representatives about how they are leveraging new technology in order to solve challenges within their communities. Smart communities have the opportunity to improve the public’s quality of life through accessibility and mobility, efficient use of public space, and improved services based on real-time data.
“Next week’s hearing is essential to exploring the difficulties many communities experience as they strive to tap into the newest innovations and advancements available today," said Chairman Latta. “We want to encourage every community to take advantage of 21st century technologies as they will increase efficiency, encourage convenience, and enhance the quality of life for Americans across the country. In Ohio, we’re already seeing investment in cutting-edge innovation, but challenges still exist for localities as they seek to improve communication, transportation, and the use of data.
Wednesday’s hearing is an important step in figuring out how we can best assist communities as they look to adopt technologies that will modernize and update their day-to-day operations."
