WASHINGTON, DC - Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Greg Walden (R-OR) and Subcommittee on Energy Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI), today issued the following statement after Westinghouse announced this morning that they were filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
“Nuclear is and must remain a vital component of a reliable, affordable, and diverse electricity portfolio. Despite today’s news, we remain confident that progress on the new reactors under construction at the Vogtle site in Georgia and V.C. Summer site in South Carolina will continue," said Walden and Upton. “We believe a robust domestic nuclear industry is critical for the United States to remain a leader in the global market. The committee will continue to monitor the situation as it progresses."
