Pallone on Secretary of Energy’s Return to the NSC’s Principals Committee

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on April 5, 2017. It is reproduced in full below.

Energy and Commerce Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) issued the following statement today upon news that the Secretary of Energy was restored to a position on the National Security Council’s (NSC) Principals Committee after being removed from the committee in January. In February, Pallone and Subcommittee on Energy Ranking Member Bobby Rush (D-IL) sent a letter to President Trump urging him to reconsider his decision to remove the Secretary of Energy from the Principals Committee of the National Security Council:

“It’s nice to see President Trump has come to his senses and restored the Secretary of Energy to the NSC’s Principals Committee. In February, Congressman Rush and I urged the President to reconsider this ill-advised and potentially dangerous decision, and I’m glad he has. As the nation’s top official charged with overseeing the safety of the nation’s nuclear arsenal and energy grid it is critical that the Secretary be at the table for national security deliberations."
