Energy and Commerce Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) issued the following statement today after the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued a final rule intended to stabilize the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Marketplace:
“These changes will not produce any meaningful improvements for the stability of the ACA Marketplace, and could significantly increase the cost of health insurance for millions of Americans. Additionally, today’s final rule from HHS is noticeably silent on the issue of cost-sharing subsidies, which is the single most important action for market stability. By repeatedly refusing to commit to providing cost-sharing assistance, and even suggesting that he will hold this assistance hostage for political gain, President Trump is creating uncertainty and purposefully sabotaging the Marketplaces. It’s time for the threats and the sabotage to end, and for President Trump to undo the damage he’s done to the Marketplaces. It’s time to work to improve the law."
