Pallone on Bears Ears National Monument

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on June 12, 2017. It is reproduced in full below.

Energy and Commerce Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) issued the following statement today in response to Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke’s report to President Trump recommending major changes to the protected status and conserved acreage of Utah’s Bears Ears National Monument:

“This misguided action by the Trump administration would cause irreparable harm to this natural treasure. Bears Ears National Monument is a living cultural landscape with unparalleled environmental and historic value. This magnificent landscape is the ancestral home of Native American tribes and includes thousands of sacred cultural sites and areas of spiritual significance. Instead of rolling back protections for this monument, the administration should seek to preserve this national treasure for future generations."
