Walden, Latta on the IRS-Equifax Contract

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Oct. 13, 2017. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC - Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Greg Walden (R-OR) and Subcommittee on Digital Commerce and Consumer Protection Chairman Bob Latta (R-OH) released the below statement after the IRS’ decision to temporarily suspend its $7.25 million contract with Equifax.

“From its initial announcement, the timing and nature of this IRS-Equifax contract raised some serious red flags. After sending a bipartisan letter to Commissioner Koskinen expressing our concerns, we are pleased to see the IRS suspend its contract with Equifax and look forward to the agency’s response to our inquiries. Our focus now remains on protecting consumers and getting answers for the 145 million Americans impacted by this massive breach," said Walden and Latta.

#SubDCCP held a hearing with former Equifax CEO Richard Smith earlier this month.
