WASHINGTON, DC - The Environment Subcommittee, chaired by Rep. John Shimkus (R-IL), today scheduled a hearing for Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017, at 10 a.m. in room 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is entitled, “Response and Recovery to Environmental Concerns from the 2017 Hurricane Season."
#SubEnvironment will continue the committee’s look at the recent series of hurricanes with an examination of the federal and state response to the environmental damage and related issues associated with the hurricanes that affected Texas, the Gulf Coast, Florida, Puerto Rico, and U.S. Virgin Islands. Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, Maria, and Nate caused a significant amount of damage to the affected regions and #SubEnvironment plans to look into the efforts to respond, how each agency is playing its part to address response and recovery, and things to think about as the recovery progresses.
“As we learned this summer, we can never be too prepared for severe weather and natural disasters. That’s why I welcome next week’s examination of the federal, state, and local government responses to recent storms so we can be better prepared in the future," said Chairman Shimkus. “Next week’s hearing will mark the committee’s third hearing on the series of storms and I’m looking forward to hearing from our panel of witnesses."
