#SubEnergy to hold Committee’s Eighth Powering America Hearing NEXT WEEK

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Nov. 21, 2017. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC - The Subcommittee on Energy, chaired by Rep. Fred Upton (R-MI), today scheduled a hearing for Wednesday, Nov. 29, at 10:15 a.m. in room 2322 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is entitled, “Powering America: Examining the Role of Financial Trading in the Electricity Markets."

The committee launched its ‘Powering America ’ series in July to provide members an opportunity to explore the complexities of electricity markets and consider reforms related to electricity generation, distribution, and consumption. Next week, #SubEnergy will look at the role and effects financial trading has in the nation’s wholesale electricity markets and whether market design changes are necessary to ensure the efficiency of financial transactions and to protect against improper trading activity.

“Next week’s hearing will mark the eighth in the committee’s ongoing Powering America series," said #SubEnergy Chairman Upton. “Our focus from the start has been on the consumer and doing what’s best for them. While technical in nature, this hearing will provide our members an opportunity to learn more about trading in financial markets, whether any inefficiencies exist, potential challenges when trading in RTO/ISO markets, and an examination as to whether price signals benefit the consumer and ensure grid reliability."

A background memo, witness list, and witness testimony will be available here as they are posted.
