WASHINGTON, DC - In the coming days, the House of Representatives will consider a Continuing Resolution (CR) that includes H.R. 3922, the CHAMPIONING HEALTHY KIDS Act. H.R. 3922, which first passed the House last month on a bipartisan vote. H.R. 3922 will extend funding for CHIP, Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and other important public health programs.
“Over the last several months, we’ve engaged with governors and their respective state CHIP programs about extending these vital resources. We’ve heard from kids and their parents, and their message has been loud and clear: We must extend CHIP funding now. We are proud this commonsense funding extension will be included in the year-end funding bill," said Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Greg Walden (R-OR) and Health Subcommittee Chairman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX). “It’s incredibly frustrating it’s taken so long and such great lengths to fund this historically bipartisan program, but we are encouraged that we are now a step closer to seeing this critical extension become law."
H.R. 3922 Protects Health Coverage for 9 Million Low-Income Children in CHIP
H.R. 3922 is fully offset through responsible reforms like reducing federal subsidies for seniors earning more than $500,000 each year (or $40,000 each month) by limiting government contributions for their Part B and D premiums, and disenrolling lottery jackpot winners from Medicaid to prioritize the most vulnerable.
Last week, the House acted to provide states with temporary relief for the month of December, waiving a rule so the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has greater flexibility to allocate currently-available redistribution dollars to any state that exhausts its federal CHIP funding.
