Energy and Commerce Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. praised the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) 5-0 vote to terminate the “resiliency" rulemaking proposed by Trump Energy Secretary Rick Perry. Last year, Pallone sent a letter to Secretary Perry requesting details on the development of the proposal:
“I am pleased that FERC has unanimously rejected the Trump Administration’s effort to subsidize certain coal and nuclear plants under the guise of a grid reliability crisis - a sham made evident this week as the grid performed well under the stress of severe cold weather throughout large portions of the country. In modern U.S. history there has never been a significant blackout caused by a lack of generation adequacy, and no reliability concern justifies such subsidies for coal and other favored fuels.
“As I said from the beginning, the Administration should not propose rules that will result in increased costs to consumers without significant public benefit. I am pleased FERC agrees that the Trump-Perry proposal did not meet that test."
