Pallone Criticizes Pruitt’s Request for NMFS to Reconsider Finding on Controversial Pesticide Chlorpyrifos

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Feb. 6, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

Energy and Commerce Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement today following news reports that Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Scott Pruitt will ask the National Marine Fisheries Service to reconsider a decision it made earlier this year that the controversial pesticide chlorpyrifos jeopardizes endangered salmon:

“Administrator Pruitt has completely lost sight of the EPA’s mission to protect human health and the environment. It is astonishing how far out of his way Administrator Pruitt is willing to go to promote special interests over the public interest. It appears that no request from industry is too small for Pruitt’s attention, even if it poses serious risks to salmon populations and our food chain."
