Pallone: Medicaid Lifetime Limits Would Be Shameful

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Feb. 6, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

Energy and Commerce Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement today following reports that the Trump Administration is considering approving Medicaid waivers that would implement lifetime limits on health care coverage:

“Any attempt by the Trump Administration to implement a lifetime limit on Medicaid would amount to a massive breach of the nation’s social safety net designed to protect children, the elderly, and the impoverished.

“We have come too far to go back to the days of lifetime limits on American’s health care coverage, which will force people further into poverty and leave some of our sickest individuals without access to care other than the emergency room.

“It is particularly shameful that the Trump Administration is considering cutting off people’s access to health care leaving them out in the cold while simultaneously slashing taxes for corporations and adding trillions to the national debt."
