WASHINGTON, DC - The Subcommittee on Communications and Technology, chaired by Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), announced a hearing for Friday, Feb. 16, 2018, at 9:00 a.m. in room 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is entitled, “Federal Communications Commission: Budget and Oversight."
Next week, #SubCommTech will continue its rigorous oversight of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Members will receive an update from all five FCC commissioners on their priorities for the coming year, including broadband deployment, the future of 5G, FCC reauthorization legislation, and more.
As the hearing falls on the 50th anniversary of the first 911 call, members will also discuss Next-Generation911 and public safety communication. The FCC will provide an update on its investigation into the recent false emergency alert event in Hawaii.
“Next week’s hearing builds on this subcommittee’s ongoing oversight efforts and our commitment to a transparent, accountable FCC. I look forward to a productive conversation with Chairman Pai and the commissioners to ensure the FCC is ready to meet the communications needs of today’s consumers," said Chairman Blackburn.
Blackburn continued, “Fifty years after the first ever 911 call was placed, we are constantly reminded the importance of fast and reliable emergency communication. The American people also need the peace of mind to know that the disaster alerts they receive are legitimate. Our hearing will be a timely forum for discussion of these critical public safety issues."
