WASHINGTON, DC - House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Greg Walden (R-OR) today announced Mike Bloomquist, currently the committee’s Deputy Staff Director, will be named Staff Director effective immediately.
“Mike has been integral to the committee’s success this past year and I am thrilled to see him step up as our next Staff Director. I know his years of experience on the Hill and in the private sector have prepared Mike well for this role. Mike’s leadership abilities and deep understanding of the legislative process will provide the Energy and Commerce Committee a steady hand to help move forward our agenda that puts consumers first and encourages the next great wave of innovation in America," said Chairman Walden.
The committee’s previous Staff Director Ray Baum passed away Friday after a years-long battle with cancer.
Mike Bloomquist has served as the Deputy Staff Director of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce under Chairman Greg Walden (R-OR). Additional government service includes serving as the General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel of Energy and Commerce under then-Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI), the General Counsel of the Select Committee on Deficit Reduction, the General Counsel of the Science Committee, and a member of the Solicitor’s office at the Department of the Interior. Bloomquist’s private sector experience includes being a counsel and partner at Wiley Rein LLP and an associate and counsel at Patton Boggs LLP. His most recent time in the private sector was with the consulting firm Kountoupes Denham. Bloomquist has a B.A. from Hamilton College, a J.D. from Washington University in St. Louis, and an LL.M. in environmental law from the George Washington University Law School. He lives in Arlington, Virginia with his wife (Christie) and three daughters (Sarah, Caroline, and Sam).
