WASHINGTON, DC - The Subcommittee on Energy, chaired by Rep. Fred Upton (R-MI), today announced details for the Thursday, April 12, 2018, hearing entitled, “The Fiscal Year 2019 Department of Energy Budget." The hearing will take place at 10 a.m. in room 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building and Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Rick Perry will be the sole witness.
Members are expected to examine DOE’s Fiscal Year 2019 budget priorities, particularly as they relate to energy security issues identified in the committee’s ‘DOE Modernization ’ series, and the agency’s expanding role to address emerging and existing threats to the physical and cybersecurity of the nation’s energy infrastructure, among other things.
“Next week’s hearing will provide our members the opportunity to learn more about DOE’s work to date and the secretary’s priorities amid a changing energy landscape," said #SubEnergy Chairman Upton. “Cyber and grid security are becoming increasingly intertwined in our energy systems and recent events have only heightened this fact. I’m especially looking forward to hearing from Secretary Perry on the agency’s cybersecurity and energy emergency efforts, and DOE’s role in coordinating energy sector security."
The committee initially announced that Secretary Perry would be testifying in March.
