WASHINGTON, DC - Following questions raised by Rep. David McKinley (R-WV) in today’s Energy and Commerce Committee hearing with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook has taken action to remove illegal online pharmacy ads.
Rep. McKinley pushed Mr. Zuckerberg on specific ads he’d seen illegally selling opioids without prescription on Facebook. As a result, Facebook has removed the ads.
“America’s in the midst of one of the worst epidemics that its ever experienced with this drug epidemic. It’s all across this country, not just in West Virginia. But your platform is still being used to circumvent the law, and allow people to buy highly addictive drugs without a prescription," Rep. McKinley told Mr. Zuckerberg.
Rep. McKinley continued, “You’ve said before you were going to take down those ads. But you didn’t do it. We’ve got statement after statement…it’s still up. My question to you is, when are you going to take down these posts?"
