WASHINGTON, DC - The Subcommittee on Digital Commerce and Consumer Protection, chaired by Rep. Bob Latta (R-OH), announced today a hearing for Thursday, April 26, 2018, at 10:15 a.m. in room 2322 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is entitled, “Perspectives on Reform of the CFIUS Review Process."
Next week’s hearing will examine the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), a multi-agency committee tasked with reviewing global investments in the U.S. for potential threats to national security. During the hearing, #SubDCCP members will discuss proposals to update the CFIUS review process, which was last updated in 2007.
Members will discuss the Foreign Investment Risk Review and Modernization Act (H.R. 4311), introduced by Rep. Robert Pittenger (R-NC), which would increase the types of investment and other transactions subject to CFIUS review, as well as the factors to be considered in such reviews.
“To ensure our country leads the way in global investments, the Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S. makes critical determinations that strengthen national security while supporting investment in American businesses. I look forward to examining CFIUS’s review process and making sure the committee has the tools it needs to prevent bad actors from doing us harm as well as encourage economic growth," said Chairman Latta.
The Subcommittee on Communications and Technology will also hold a hearing in the coming weeks to examine related CFIUS, telecommunications, and supply-chain issues.
The Majority Memorandum, witness testimony, and live webcast will be made available on the committee’s website HERE as they are posted.
