WASHINGTON, DC - The Energy and Commerce Committee, chaired by Rep. Greg Walden (R-OR), formally announced a markup for Wednesday, May 9, 2018, at 9 a.m. in room 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building.
The #FullCmte will vote on 26 individual bills as part of the committee’s ongoing efforts to combat the opioid crisis. In addition to the opioid bills considered, the #FullCmte will also review: legislation to reauthorize the animal drug and animal generic drug user fee programs, a reauthorization of the over-the-counter monograph user fee program, and five bills originating from #SubEnergy.
“Energy and Commerce is taking another leap forward in its comprehensive efforts to combat the opioid crisis. The first of two markups, Wednesday will grant members the opportunity to review 26 bills that will make critical reforms to the many facets within this crisis," said #FullCmte Chairman Walden. “In the meantime, we will continue to work with our Democrat colleagues to fine tune the remaining bills ahead of next week’s markup. Families all across the country are depending on us, and we won’t let them down."
Last month, #SubHealth passed 57 bills to combat the opioid crisis. 48 of those bills passed by voice vote.
The two markups were first announced on Friday, May 4, 2018. The #FullCmte will hold a second markup on opioid legislation on Thursday, May 17, 2018. More information on the second markup will be posted here, as it becomes available.
A background memo, electronic copies of the legislation, and live stream of the markup can be found online here. Amendment text and votes will be available at the same link as they are posted.
