WASHINGTON, DC - The Energy and Commerce Committee, chaired by Rep. Greg Walden (R-OR), is currently holding a #FullCmte markup reviewing 33 pieces of legislation, 26 which will help combat the opioid crisis.
As part of the committee’s ongoing efforts to combat this evolving crisis, #SubHealth recently held a roundtable discussion hearing directly from individuals who have felt the devastating effects of this epidemic.
Today the committee debuts the “Personal Stories from the Opioid Crisis" video series, which will highlight roundtable participants who shared how their families have struggled with or lost loved ones to substance abuse.
Narrating the beginning of the first video in this series, #FullCmte Chairman Greg Walden (R-OR) states, “As you all know, the opioid crisis has taken a stranglehold on our communities. It is killing our friends. It is killing our family members and our neighbors. And it does so regardless of race or socio-economic status, or geographic location, or political affiliation."
As roundtable participant, Ms. Kathy O’Keefe told committee members, “This is family," and it’s why we’re here today and must press on in our fight to combat the opioid crisis.
