WASHINGTON, DC - The Subcommittee on Digital Commerce and Consumer Protection, chaired by Rep. Bob Latta (R-OH), announced today a legislative hearing for Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at 10:15 a.m. in room 2322 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is entitled, “Internet of Things Legislation."
#SubDCCP will examine the SMART IoT Act, a discussion draft led by Chairman Latta and Rep. Peter Welch (D-VT) to direct the Secretary of Commerce to conduct a study on the state of the internet-connected devices industry. This legislation builds on the subcommittee’s #DisrupterSeries, which explores the opportunities created by IoT technology for consumers and industries, as well as how federal policies can impact the growth of cutting-edge innovation.
“IoT is revolutionizing industries and day-to-day life for Americans, optimizing everything from health care applications and automobiles to the smart home device in your kitchen. As IoT technology continues to develop, this draft legislation is an important step in supporting innovation and economic growth. We look forward to a bipartisan discussion at the hearing next week," said Chairman Latta and Rep. Welch.
