Pallone on FDA’s List of Pharmaceutical Companies Blocking Generic Competition

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on May 17, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

Energy and Commerce Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement today after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released a list of companies that are gaming loopholes that allow them to delay generic competition from coming to market:

“There is no reason to think that a public list shaming pharmaceutical companies for blocking generics from coming to market will compel them to compete fairly. After all, these are the same companies that have raised drug prices for years in spite of intense public scrutiny. The only way to ensure an even playing field is for Congress to pass legislation that allows generics to compete fairly and come to market after patents expire."
