Energy and Commerce Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement today after the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued a proposed rule that would radically restrict women’s health care providers under the Title X Family Planning Program:
“I am disgusted that the Trump Administration is once again prioritizing extremist ideology over women’s health. This proposed rule is a blatant attack on reproductive health care providers and only serves to seriously impair women’s access to and information about the full range of reproductive health care services. Under this proposal, low-income women will lose access to contraceptive services and related preventive health care, and providers will be forced to choose between giving their patients complete medical information or complying with a restriction on speech. This rule stigmatizes patients who seek information about their pregnancy options and is a radical departure from how health care should be provided in this country.
“I have repeatedly voiced my strong opposition to the Trump Administration’s ongoing attacks on women’s health, and I’m once again appalled by the lengths this Administration will go to restrict women’s access to care."
