VIDEO: Walters Discusses Treatment and Recovery Homes in Midst of Opioid Crisis

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on June 8, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC - The Energy and Commerce Committee today released the fifth video in a series featuring committee members highlighting their legislative efforts to combat the opioid crisis. These videos will highlight just a handful of the 57 legislative solutions the committee advanced to the full House in May.

In today’s video, Rep. Mimi Walters (R-CA) highlights H.R. 4684, the Ensuring Access to Quality Sober Living Act of 2017. Authored with several bipartisan colleagues, H.R. 4684 will authorize the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to develop, publish, and disseminate best practices for operating recovery housing that promotes a safe environment for sustained recovery from substance use disorder.

“The cycle of addiction can be hard to break," said Rep. Walters. “Those who seek treatment must have access to safe and qualified facilities that provide quality care and support."
