WASHINGTON, DC - The Subcommittee on Energy, chaired by Rep. Fred Upton (R-MI), today announced a hearing for Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. in room 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is entitled, “The Shifting Geopolitics of Oil and Gas."
Next week, #SubEnergy will explore the benefits of American oil and gas development, and the associated jobs, economic development, energy security advantages, and geopolitical impacts. This hearing coincides with the World Gas Conference 2018, which is taking place in Washington, D.C. next week from June 25th to the 29th. Thousands of attendees and more than 600 government officials and senior executives from around the world will be gathering to discuss a variety of topics, including the United States’ role as a world leader for energy.
“It wasn’t too long ago that the United States faced growing dependence on imported crude oil and natural gas to meet domestic demand," said Chairman Upton. “But within the last decade the boom in U.S. oil and natural gas production have had dramatic and positive effects on the U.S. economy and world markets. We’re already net exporters of natural gas, and now thanks to Congress lifting the antiquated 40-year ban on crude oil exports, we’re able to have more influence on world energy markets. This has created new jobs, boosted our energy security, and enhanced our geopolitical influence across the globe. As we work our way toward energy independence, I look forward to exploring the economic and security benefits of capitalizing on our energy abundance."
