WASHINGTON, DC - The Subcommittee on Energy, chaired by Rep. Fred Upton (R-MI), today announced a hearing for Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at 9:00 a.m. in room 2322 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is entitled, “Powering America: The Role of Energy Storage in the Nation’s Electricity System."
The committee launched its ‘Powering America ’ series last July to provide members an opportunity to explore the complexities of electricity markets and consider reforms related to electricity generation, distribution, and consumption. Next week, on the one-year anniversary of the series, #SubEnergy will hold its 11th hearing in the series where Members will examine the growth of large-scale energy storage in the United States, the unique reliability attributes energy storage provides for the electric grid, and the use and impacts of energy storage within wholesale electricity markets.
“The electricity industry must constantly plan and be prepared for disruptions to the supply of electricity to ensure it can provide reliable power to every corner of the country," said #SubEnergy Chairman Upton. “Large-scale energy storage offers a wide range of applications and provides many services that can improve the reliability and resiliency of the U.S. electric grid. While the costs of energy storage devices are declining, there are still several deterrents to greater deployment of energy storage. I look forward to hearing from our witnesses to see how we can remove barriers to energy storage participation in markets."
