WASHINGTON, DC - Full Committee Chairman Greg Walden (R-OR) and Energy Subcommittee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI) issued the following statement after the House today passed S. 490, a bill aimed at boosting our nation’s energy infrastructure, by voice vote. The bill now heads to President Trump’s desk for his signature.
“Hydropower is an essential component of our energy strategy and this emissions-free energy resource should not be bogged down in bureaucratic red tape any longer," said Walden and #SubEnergy Chairman Upton. “We’re thankful for the overwhelming bipartisan support for this legislation and to see it head to President Trump’s desk to ensure that we get these important infrastructure projects built."
Passing the House today was:
* 490, a bill to reinstate and extend the deadline for commencement of construction of a hydroelectric project involving the Gibson Dam, authored by Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT), extends the license of the Gibson Dam hydroelectric project, creating jobs and providing affordable, reliable electricity to the residents of Montana.
Background:
In addition to this bill, the Senate also recently passed five Energy and Commerce bills to extend construction licenses for hydro projects in North Carolina, New York, Virginia, and West Virginia.
This Congress, the committee has been hard at work examining ways to modernize our energy and electricity delivery systems, expand hydropower generation, and modernize our pipeline and hydropower infrastructure.
