WASHINGTON, DC - Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Greg Walden (R-OR) and Health Subcommittee Chairman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX) issued the following statement after the Senate passed H.R. 5554, the Animal Drug and Animal Generic Drug User Fee Amendments of 2018, authored by Reps. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) and Kurt Schrader (D-OR), by unanimous consent yesterday.
“These programs are critically important when it comes to the care of our pets and the farmers that help produce the food that feeds our country," said Chairman Walden and #SubHealth Chairman Burgess. “We applaud the Senate’s swift passage of this important reauthorization and look forward to President Trump soon signing it into law."
Background:
H.R. 5554 will amend the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to reauthorize user fee programs relating to new animal drugs (Animal Drug User Fee Act or ADUFA) and new generic animal drugs (Animal Generic Drug User Fee Act or AGDUFA).
H.R. 5554 passed the House on July 16, by voice vote. The bill passed the Energy and Commerce Committee in May 2018, by voice vote.
