WASHINGTON, DC - The Health Subcommittee, chaired by Rep. Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), announced a hearing for Friday, Sept. 14, 2018, at 9:15 a.m. in room 2322 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is entitled, “Better Data and Better Outcomes: Reducing Maternal Mortality in the U.S."
#SubHealth will review a new discussion draft of H.R. 1318, the Preventing Maternal Deaths Act of 2017, authored by Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-WA). The discussion draft would create a new grant opportunity for eligible entities to help enhance and improve reporting of maternal health outcomes.
“As both a member of Congress and an OB/GYN, I have been concerned by reports of increasing rates of maternal mortality in the U.S., especially in my home state of Texas," said #SubHealth Chairman Burgess. “Next week’s hearing will be an opportunity to learn more about current disparities and incomplete reporting measures. We’ll also have a chance to hear about how standardizing maternal mortality data can help to inform a wide variety of stakeholders, including Congress, public health officials, and health care providers, so together we can ultimately identify and implement best practices to improve maternal health outcomes."
