Pallone on FDA’s E-Cigarette Crackdown

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Sept. 12, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

Energy and Commerce Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement today commending the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) announcement on the agency’s new steps to address youth e-cigarette use:

“I applaud Commissioner Gottlieb and FDA for their commitment to reducing youth access to electronic nicotine products. Today’s announcement is a critical step in addressing the dangerous increase of kids and teens using products like JUUL, and it puts e-cigarette manufacturers on notice that their targeted marketing tactics will not be tolerated.

“I also commend FDA for reconsidering its delay of some provisions of the deeming rule and considering the removal of flavors from electronic nicotine products. These flavors only serve to attract kids and teens to these products. Both of these proposals should be implemented in order to fully combat this growing epidemic."
