The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Oct. 23, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC - House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Greg Walden (R-OR) and Communications and Technology Subcommittee Chairman Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) issued the following statement on the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) vote on changes to the 3.5 GHz band, a mid-band spectrum critical to the deployment of 5G networks.

“The U.S. stands at a critical juncture on the road to next-generation 5G technologies, like self-driving cars, smart home devices, and telemedicine. We can’t afford to sit back and let global competitors take the reins, and today’s vote by the FCC demonstrates America’s commitment to leading the way. The Energy and Commerce Committee will continue to support these efforts and more to ensure the necessary spectrum is available to allow 5G innovation and growth," said Chairman Walden and #SubCommTech Chairman Blackburn.
