Health Subcommittee Announces Hearing on Texas v. United States & Its Impact on People’s Health Care

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Jan. 30, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Health Subcommittee Chairwoman Anna Eshoo (D-CA) announced today that the Health Subcommittee will hold a hearing on the impacts of the Texas v. United States court case on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at 10:15 am in room 2322 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing, entitled, “Texas v. U.S.: the Republican Lawsuit and Its Impacts on Americans with Pre-Existing Conditions," will examine the impacts of the court decision on the nation’s health care if the ruling stands on appeal.

“If this disastrous district court ruling stands on appeal, the American health care system will be upended, premiums and out-of-pocket costs will skyrocket, and insurance companies will once again be able to discriminate against Americans with pre-existing conditions," Pallone and Eshoo said. “This hearing will be an important opportunity to hear directly from patient advocates, as well as policy and legal experts on the devastating toll this ideological court decision will have on millions of Americans’ lives."

Information for this hearing, including the Majority Memorandum, witness list and testimony, and a live webcast, will be posted HERE as they become available.
