Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Environment and Climate Change Subcommittee Chairman Paul Tonko (D-NY) announced today that the Environment and Climate Change Subcommittee will hold a hearing on Tuesday, April 2, at 10 am in the John D. Dingell Room, 2123 Rayburn House Office Building on how state and local leaders are responding to the climate crisis in the wake of President Trump’s intent to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement. The hearing is entitled, “Lessons from Across the Nation: State and Local Action to Combat Climate Change."
“President Trump’s effort to withdraw the U.S. from the Paris Climate Agreement is a complete abdication of U.S. leadership. It breaks our promise to our friends and allies, undermines our global credibility, and worst of all, puts Americans’ health, safety and economic future at great risk," said Pallone and Tonko. “The world is transitioning to a low-carbon economy. Thankfully, state and local leaders are taking up this challenge and expanding opportunities in clean energy, all while making their communities safer and more resilient. We look forward to hearing from them about the opportunities and benefits of taking meaningful climate action."
