Pallone on Court Decision Striking Down the Trump Administration’s Illegal Medicaid Work Requirements

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on March 27, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement today following a U.S. District Court decision striking down the Trump Administration’s attempts to impose work requirements on Medicaid beneficiaries:

“This court ruling is a victory for the millions of Americans who are struggling to make ends meet and depend on Medicaid for health care. These requirements were cruel and a clear violation of both the Medicaid statute and longstanding congressional intent. The Administration attempted to weaponize 1115 waivers in their efforts to cut vital health care services for Americans.

“Democrats will continue to stand up to the Trump Administration and their heartless attempts to take health care away from millions of Americans. I am encouraged that one of their cruelest attempts yet has been rightly defeated in the courts."
