Washington, D.C. - Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee Chair Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) announced today that the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee will hold a hearing on oversight of the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on Tuesday, April 9, at 10:15 am in room 2322 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing will be entitled, “Protecting Americans from Dangerous Products: Is the Consumer Product Safety Commission Fulfilling Its Mission?"
“We have serious concerns about CPSC’s commitment to protecting consumers from the risks of injury or death associated with consumer products and taking direction from industries it is supposed to regulate," said Pallone and Schakowsky. “The Commission’s failure to take strong action to protect children from being killed by furniture tip-overs and being strangled by cords in window blinds deserves serious scrutiny. This oversight hearing is critical to the Committee fulfilling its essential duty to oversee CPSC and ensure the Commission is in fact fulfilling its consumer protection mission."
Information for this hearing, including the Committee Memorandum, witness list and testimony, and a live webcast, will be posted HERE as they become available.
