Washington, D.C. - Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee Chair Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) announced today that the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee will hold a hearing on oversight of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) on Wednesday, May 8, at 10:30 am in the John D. Dingell Room, 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing will be entitled, “Oversight of the Federal Trade Commission: Strengthening Protections for Americans’ Privacy and Data Security."
“FTC needs more enforcement power, rulemaking authority, and resources to effectively safeguard Americans’ privacy and data security. That’s why Congress must act to ensure that FTC has the tools it needs to protect consumers," Pallone and Schakowsky said. “This oversight hearing is a critical step in the Committee’s process for crafting comprehensive data privacy and security legislation. We look forward to resuming our essential duty to oversee FTC and ensure the Commission can fulfill its consumer protection mission."
