Pallone, Neal, and Scott Blast Trump Administration’s Discriminatory Proposal to Eliminate Patient Protections

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on May 24, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ), Ways and Means Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA), and Education and Labor Chairman Robert C. “Bobby" Scott released the following joint statement today on the Trump Administration’s proposed rule to further undermine the Affordable Care Act (ACA) by attempting to reverse anti-discrimination provisions of the law that protect women and transgender Americans’ rights:

“This inhumane proposal is yet another attempt by the Trump Administration to sabotage the ACA’s critical patient protections and turn back the clock on Americans’ health care rights. The fact is that the ACA remains the law of the land and its protections against sex and gender discrimination by health care providers and insurers remain firmly in place. Democrats will continue to fight this stigmatizing proposal, put patients first, and protect the rights of all Americans, including transgender individuals and women from discrimination."
