Walden & Burgess Statement on Full Committee Passage of Bills to Strengthen Public Health Programs

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on July 17, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC - Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Greg Walden (R-OR) and Subcommittee on Health Republican Leader Dr. Michael Burgess (R-TX) released the following statement on the passage of bills to strengthen America’s public health programs through the Energy and Commerce Committee.

The Energy and Commerce Committee has a strong history of working diligently to strengthen America’s public health programs, and we are staying true to that history today. We are advancing four-year extensions of funding for several critical programs such as the Special Diabetes Program, National Health Service Corps, and Community Health Centers, all of which play a vital role in the wellbeing and health care of all of our constituents. We also are taking steps to bolster the public safety nets that protect our most at-need communities, including an elimination of two years of Obamacare cuts to our disproportionate share hospitals. Altogether, this bipartisan package represents a significant step forward in this Committee’s work to boost medical research, strengthen treatment and prevention, and improve the delivery of health care to American communities. We look forward to continuing this collaborative work to get this legislation across the finish line and signed into law" said Walden and Burgess
