Walden Makes Staff Announcement for Energy and Commerce Committee

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on July 25, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC - Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Greg Walden (R-OR) announces two personnel moves - a new member of the senior staff and a new addition - for the committee Republicans. Walden previously noted the departure of Melissa Froelich, the outgoing Chief Counsel for the Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Commerce.

“The Energy and Commerce Committee has a history of employing talented and dedicated professionals, and we continue that tradition today. I know Tim will excel in this new role, and I welcome Evan back to the team. The mission remains clear, serve the public well and support the work of our Republican members," said Walden.

Today’s staff announcements include:

Tim Kurth, Chief Counsel, Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Commerce

Kurth will serve as the Republican Chief Counsel for the Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Commerce. Tim joined the Energy and Commerce Committee in June of 2017 as senior professional staff for the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology, and most recently serving as its Deputy Chief Counsel. Tim began his career in Washington with the U.S. Department of State, later serving as the Assistant to the Speaker for Policy for Speaker J. Dennis Hastert on technology, telecommunications, and financial services issues, and then went on to a career in the private sector before returning to Capitol Hill.

Evan Viau, Professional Staff Member, Subcommittee on Communications and Technology

Viau will serve as Professional Staff Member for the Energy and Commerce Republicans. Evan most recently served as Legislative Assistant for Representative Tim Walberg (R-MI). Previously, Evan served in various roles for the Energy and Commerce Committee, including on the Communications and Technology Subcommittee in the 115th Congress.
